Pursuing EMC solutions
DELTA solves problems of electrical noise in various environments on-site - everything from offices, through small and large industrial companies to offshore platforms.
Know-how = solutions
First and foremost, we use our experience and knowledge, which we have gained by working in the field of EMC since 1944. We know the EMC requirements on the products and the reality of what they are exposed to in the operating environment.
Trouble and extra costs
Electrical noise from equipment can interfere with products or machinery, so from time to time operational problems arise which result in financial losses. In the worst case, the machine can become unstable and unsafe.
Intermittent failures
The problem is often periodical. Electricity and automation professionals have typically been trying to remedy the fault for a long time before we are called in:
- Components have been replaced
- Software has been updated
- Attempts have been made to improve the installation
Yet the fault continues to occur.
This causes periodical operational stoppages and irritation.
What is wrong?
Is the reason for the problems excessive EMC radiation from a noise source?
Or is it poor EMC shielding, which thus ensures there is a noise route?
Or is the immunity of the noise victim lower than necessary for the operating environment?
The reason
The electrical noise is often high-frequency signals, which act differently to 50 Hz.
A high-frequency signal can connect to wires and devices via the air and does not require a direct cable connection to gain access, for example, to signal cables or devices.
What does DELTA do?
A combination of our knowledge from many EMC troubleshooting projects and measuring instruments and other equipment provide clear indications of where the noise source and noise route can be found.
We pinpoint the noise source and propose EMC improvements to devices, installations and control panels, which normally solves the EMC problems.
If the noise source cannot be found
DELTA uses equipment that can generate various EMC noise pulses and EMC noise signals. This allows us to check the immunity of the noise victim and to assess whether a lack of immunity to EMC is the cause of the interference.
Advice on EMC immunity
We give advice on the improvement of EMC immunity and solve the EMC problem without having identified the actual source of the noise, solely based on the results of our measurements and our experience.
Built-in EMC solutions
There is another way! It is possible to prevent failures and trouble caused by electrical noise - EMC.
EMC training courses
Learn how to build EMC into your installations, control panels and electrical panels on the training course entitled "Electrical noise - A mystery or pure knowledge?"
If you design products or printed circuit boards - PCBs - you can benefit from attending the training course "EMC Basics - Get The Fundamentals Right" or "EMC at Component And PCB Level".
How to
DELTA on-site experts have written some general guidelines based on experiences gathered from many of our on-site cases.
Power quality
Another possible cause of the problems might be poor power quality.
Case study: Pressalit A/S
DELTA brought down the number of unforeseen production stoppages at the packaging plant. After weeks of problems with failures and at times also production stoppages at Pressalit's packaging plant, DELTA conducted EMC measurements of the plant, concentrating on the frequency converters.
