Vibrations in the environment

Measurement of vibration

Aku - Vibration in the working environment
Building machinery causes vibration

Vibrations are jolts and occur wherever people travel, live and work. They often occur in conjunction with sounds and noise, though not always. In terms of their nuisance, there is a distinction between vibration in the working environment and vibration in the surroundings and the home. Typically, vibration occurs with hand tools, building machinery, at launderettes and the like, or close to railways.

Vibration can cause long-term effects

Vibration can occur as a necessary part of a work process, but if it causes immediate nuisance or a suspicion of long-term adverse effects on machinery, buildings and people, there is reason to investigate further. The Danish Environmental Protection Agency has set threshold values on vibration in buildings (comfort), while the Danish Working Environment Authority has limits on vibration in the working environment.

Vibrations in buildings

Buildings can suffer vibration from nearby construction work and nuisance can be caused within the buildings in the form of noticeable shaking of the floor, clinking glasses in a cupboard or troublesome radiation of sound from the surfaces of the building.

Vibration investigations

The developer/building owner, residents or insurance companies can prompt a closer inspection of the vibration load. The purpose of vibration investigations is most often one of documentation, short or longer-term monitoring, problem solving or the prevention of injuries.

Vibration in the working environment

There are rules in the workplace governing the strength of vibration to which the body may be exposed, for example when working extensively with plate vibrators, etc. There are aid devices which reduce the vibration, and DELTA advises on, and tests, various items of equipment - anti-vibration gloves, for example.

We know what we are talking about

DELTA has 40 years' broad experience in acoustics, noise and vibration. We have the correct special equipment for measuring and assessing vibration. We have enough projects to ensure that our skills in the area are constantly being updated and enhanced. We work on the basis of relevant standards. For example, when assessing the risk of building damage due to vibration we use DIN 4150-3 and for the special test of anti-vibration gloves we use ISO 10819. DELTA is accredited by DANAK to carry out vibration measurements.
