Noise from harbour areas

Many Danish harbours have recently had residences or offices built in their immediate vicinity. The new neighbours expect peace and quiet in the often exclusive flats. This can be difficult to reconcile with lorry movements, container handling and other activities that go on in modern harbours. The harbour is thus at risk of complaints from neighbours and of getting a bad reputation with the local populace and users.

3D noise model for planning

DELTA will calculate the noise from the harbour at the existing and intended buildings, both in terms of the current harbour and in a possible future situation where further development has taken place. We construct a three-dimensional model of the harbour and its surroundings. This means we can adjust the model according to planned changes and can calculate and see the consequences in terms of noise. The noise calculation model is a good planning tool for new projects.

We know what we are talking about

DELTA has more than 40 years' experience in acoustics, noise and vibration. DELTA is accredited by DANAK to carry out measurements, calculations and reports on outdoor noise. This means that our reports can form part of the authorities' administrative procedures in connection with approvals, planning, etc. Throughout all the years, DELTA has been measuring and calculating external noise and thus has great knowledge of effective means of avoiding noise problems with neighbours. Credibility is the key, and DELTA has around 30 acousticians at its disposal, all with their unique knowledge.

Copenhagen Harbour: Moving of container terminal

In connection with a major European project we gained great experience of measuring noise sources at harbours, for example from cruise ships, fork-lift trucks, straddle carriers, container ships and cranes as well as of calculating their contribution in existing and planned residential areas. In connection with the planned town development in Copenhagen North Harbour (Nordhavnen), DELTA has carried out calculations of the consequences of moving the container terminal.
