EWALD's birth, 11 April 2002

At my 25-year anniversary at DELTA Acoustics and Vibration in the spring 2002, I decided to do something to make the students aware of the interesting field of acoustics.

30 years ago, when I was a student, we built loudspeakers and played music. That gave a natural interest in acoustics. Today students spend a lot of time with their computers, but that does not give a special interest in acoustics.

In the invitations to the jubilee reception I asked my guests not to bring me wine and flowers, but instead send me some links to interesting and/or entertaining acoustical sites on the Internet. I also asked if they would send a small amount of money so I could reward students that sent links to me with a gift card (this only applies to Danish students).

With all the links I received, we made a homepage. The first reaction I got was from my 18 year old son, Troels. He said that the layout was "dry as crisp bread" and that we had to do something about it. Our former webmaster, Birgitte Mann changed the layout and personalized the site with small clay figures, which was a gift from my 10 year old daughter, Cecilie. EWALD

One of these mascots got the name EWALD.

He and his family are of the species "Gnom's".
